Sorry for sending this so close to my previous but I thought you might want to know about a wonderful initiative with the LTA and Wolverhampton Council to help people in the local area become more active by playing racket sports. We have been able to recruit and appoint a Community Tennis Coordinator whose role will be to increase participation at West Park, Aldersley Leisure Village and expand our schools programme around the city.
The Club Chairman, Tennis Chairman and our Rackets Manager, Paul Hodgetts have been working over the last few weeks to fill the new post with the right person. I’m very pleased to be able to tell you that Clayton Edge has agreed to take on this initiative and has already been delivering sessions at RAF Cosford, West Park and Bantock Park with over 200 participants in a just a couple of weeks already.
Clayton has a wealth of experience - 23 years of self-taught playing experience including 19 singles Club Championships at Quarry Bank, Bewdley and Walsall. He has played LTA tournaments from age 16-18, accruing over 12 titles including County u18 doubles champions. He became full time Head Coach at Walsall Tennis Club in 2005 and has coached at David Lloyd, Bloxwich and Little Aston. He is also the Walsall Parks Tennis Officer and loves being out and about in community venues.
He is a very versatile coach and enjoys working with adult beginners/improvers and enjoys teaching the lifelong joys and skills of doubles. He has also created 4 grass touch tennis courts in a local park and has played in the British Hard Court Masters at the National Tennis Centre.
We wish Clayton and his family a very warm WLTSC welcome and we look forward to seeing him around the club and inspiring tennis at the parks and schools. If you would like to be part of our community volunteer workforce then please get in touch with me or any of our everypoint coaching team.
