At the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 15th January 2018 I gave an update on the various initiatives highlighted in my letter to the membership on 7th November 2017. I also spoke about certain other issues that were being examined by the General Committee.
I have summarised what has happened since the AGM and where we are currently under appropriate headings.
Nothing has changed in this area since the AGM or indeed since my letter dated 7th November 2017.
Fill The Gap :
Since the AGM we have been working with our sports funding consultant to establish a Community Tennis Network (CTN) in Wolverhampton. This has involved contacting local tennis clubs, schools and other organisations who may be looking to expand their tennis offering. The establishment of a local CTN is a fundamental requirement of the LTA to access funding under Transforming British Tennis Together (TBTT). The other requirement is that any funding application by our club must be accompanied by a funding application from at least one other member of the CTN. We have several other members of the CTN interested in making applications and we are working with them on this.
The architects we employed to obtain planning permission are still working on providing us with budget costs for the project. When we have received these budget costs we will be able to consider which parts of the project the club can afford without putting it under financial pressure. I reiterate what I have always stated, “We will not commence any aspect of the project without your formal approval”.
The two tarmac courts have been replaced with two artificial European Clay courts. They look fantastic and are now available to play on. By making this change it should alleviate some of the pressure on court availability, particularly as the tennis season approaches.
Ladies Changing Rooms:
An open meeting was held with the lady members on 13th February 2018 to discuss proposals for altering and improving the ladies changing rooms. A small sub-committee of ladies was formed to represent the ladies and they have been instrumental in forming the plans for the changing rooms. We are currently awaiting quotes from builders, and intend starting the work as soon as possible.
We are currently formulating ideas and obtaining costs for the refurbishment and enhancement of the pit. The intention is to improve the fitness offering to members and we are working in conjunction with the Energize team to achieve this.
As you can see there is a great deal of work going on behind the scenes, the results of which are slowly emerging and which will become more apparent over the coming months.
I trust that this update has proved useful.
