Following extensive interviews and on court assessment I’m very pleased to be able to let you know, on behalf of the Squash & Racketball Committee, that we have now recruited Chris Dawson as Head of Squash and Racketball. Chris will officially start his new role on 4th September but you might have already seen him here training and meeting with our team players and committee members. I know he’s very much looking forward to meeting all our members and helping increase participation.
Chris is a player-coach in both squash and racketball. When coaching one to one, he uses routines and condition games as much as possible as he believes having to play shots under pressure improves people’s games faster. He says: “I focus on everything from grip, swing, technique, movement and speed.” His areas of speciality are junior individuals and groups, team training and adult individuals and groups.
Chris also added: “I am looking to progress the Junior aspect of squash at Wolverhampton. As squash players, we all know that squash is a great game and I am keen to get this message out to juniors and hopefully coach some future champions in the making. There is so much to the game of squash, and there is always something to learn, which is why I am so passionate about it.”
Here at the club we also have a growing number of racketball players and Chris will also be helping them to develop their on-court skills and continuing to improve.
Our coaching team is in an excellent position with Chris overseeing the programme, ably assisted by Darren Lewis, Andy Hepworth and our wonderful volunteers. We have also secured an excellent partnership with Tettenhall College and will be utilising their two amazing new courts to deliver 10 hours a week of coaching to their students during term time.
On a personal note, I would like to thank Guy Birkett (Chairman), our Committee members and playing members involved in the on-court assessments for all their help and feedback during the extensive recruiting process - we have a great team and a new Head of Squash and Racketball living locally.
If you’d like to book some lessons with Chris please give him a call on 07884 133775.
