Ernie Williams

Dear [[firstname]],

On behalf of the club, we are very sad to let you know that Ernie Williams recently passed away. Ernie was Caretaker and Head Groundsman at the club for many years and took immense pride in looking after our grass courts and flower beds. He lived in what used to be a flat on the third floor at the club and ensured his knowledge and standards were passed onto our Head Groundman, Dave Pope who continues Ernie’s legacy. Here are some words from Ernie’s daughter, Kerry;

“Some of you may remember me, I was the tennis player (under the watchful eye of my coach Pete ( Brownie)). I just wanted to say thank you to you all for the lovely comments that the family have received about our Dad. Only last week Dad asked my sister Leanne to check his roses at the club and less than a month ago he asked me to take him back to the club. The fact that that we can honour that request means such a lot to us. So, on behalf of the family thank you all so much for making his life at the club so enjoyable and memorable. He loved his grass courts and took such pride in making the gardens look beautiful. Indeed, he will be missed by so many. Thank you all again and hope to see some of you on 1st June at Ernie’s Wake at the club.”
