Internal Squash and Racketball League Newsletter

Good afternoon,

Well, It’s that time of the year again, the leftover turkey is still taking up a whole shelf in the fridge and you’ve now realised just how much wrapping there is in a tin of Quality Street.

But there is good news, Hurrah!!!

Santa has been back around and delivered a shiny new Squash League and to top it all off he’s delved deep into his sack and brought us an all singing and dancing, batteries included and full of Z list celebrities Racketball league!

55 ultimate warriors have entered the new Racketball (Squash 57) league, which has been divided into 9 Leagues with our first “Premier League” adorning some of the heavy hitters. There are some juicy ties in all divisions and anyone is capable of winning each group with the new seeding (a big thank you to Guy Birkett for helping with rankings)

Good luck to all participants the first round is going to be a corker!

Squash Round Up

Division 1: Jason Smith sits at the head of the table with an almost impressive clean sweep, an injured foot left him with one game left to play, only Nigel Grinsell completed all matches and still came up 4 points shy of the victor.

Division 2: This was a closely fought battle with the top 3 players finishing with 3 points between them, Sid Lambert rises to Division 1 accompanied by Sunday Boasts very own Simon Newell, unfortunately Andy Jones missed out on promotion.

Division 3: These guys are all winners and should all be promoted for completing a clean sweep with every match completed, unfortunately only two can go up and hats are doffed to Mark Benfield for a 5/5 streak but can he keep it going in Division 2? Leon Smith takes the second promotion spot with an also impressive 4/5 victories with three 3-0 victories over his older legged foe.

Division 4: The mince pies were opened early and the combatants were in holiday mode from early doors and saw only two completed games, well done to Seb Smith for getting promoted and playing the most games and Jane Hatton for getting slightly better results than Dan Richards to also gain promotion. Hopefully Dan can get take command of the league next round and rise up the rankings.

Division 5: Teachers report would read ‘Must do better’ come on guys, New Year, fresh start lets get some bonus points!!!

Racketball Round Up

Division 1: Guess who’s Back? Guy Birkett goes into the new decade as Racketball champ, Dave Smith kept the seat warm for a round but there was only going to be one name top of the pops for the Christmas No.1, Jonathon Evans finishing a respectable 3 points behind only losing to the overall champ.

Division 2: Steve Pearcey took the second division aided by the two extra games played over Stephen Giddings who was unbeaten in the 3/3 he managed.

Division 3: A great active round by all with the majority of matches being completed, the champ, who is currently in warm weather training and currently eating his own weight in sea food was Ian Detheridge a whopping 26 points matching Div 1’s champ, a hotly contested division though, that could’ve gone a different way with Neil Foxall missing out on his clean sweep not getting in his final game finishing on 25 points. Well done guys very impressive.

Division 4: Not content with winning his squash division Mark Benfield also took the title of Div 4 winner with 3/3 victories with Richard Dews taking second place with a victory and defeat giving him a 2 point gap over 3rd Paul Galyas.

Division 5: Teachers report would read ‘show promise, if only they’d show up’

With 2020 speeding towards us, have a safe New Years Eve and I’ll see you all on the courts ready to get those bonus points.

Happy New Year
