Good afternoon
As the indoor season officially starts and the new round of Squash and Racketball leagues go live, the sun has decided it's time to come back out and draw everyone back outside onto the tennis courts for an additional week. But do not fear! you have until October 24th to complete the latest round of matches that are now live on mycourts and on the noticeboards down by the courts. An additional week has been put in place with the First City Club Champs about to start so you have a leisurely 7 weeks to get your matches played.
Roundup:
Great to see the squash divisions almost completing every game during the August holiday period, with only a couple of injured and walking wounded combatants unable to compete. We have, however, got a new name atop the leaderboard. Congratulations to Leon Smith finishing with 23 points after beating runner-up (on 22 points) Jason Smith 3-1, a bit savage though not letting his father get an extra game to finish all level and take it by default, probably the last time we'll see Jason carrying the kit bag for him! hoping to see Leon compete for the club in the upcoming team matches!
If anyone would like to represent the club in any of the three external squash leagues (Warwickshire, Shropshire, and newly formed Staffordshire), please enter your name on the form on the wall between courts 3 and 4 we have a few more weeks before these are due to start and would be good to see some new faces competing for our club home and away.
Unfortunately, it was only a close-run battle in the Racketball (Squash 57) Premier Division where all 5 players completed their matches, well-done guys. Jason Smith clearly concentrating more on the big ball game this round (or finding it easier to see the bigger ball) to put himself top by default having beaten Rami Labib who also finished with 17 points.
In the words of Delia Smith "Where are you?, Where are you?, let's be 'avin' you!" and you thought I was going to say pop the oven on 180 degrees.
Out of the 58 players in the Racketball league, we only managed to see 21 players get a game in this round. As such, the players partaking have been moved accordingly up the rankings and each division has been reduced to 5 players. This adjustment now gives you 6 weeks (7 this round) to get 5 games in, is this possible? can we get more participation this round? the challenge is on. Please can you check mycourts or the notice board league tables and get in touch if you would like to be removed, I know many are still involved with outdoor sports at the moment and a few players have injuries but I don't want to remove any players that are now starting to move indoors as the nights draw in and the thermals are required.
Enjoy the weather and see you all on court soon
