First City Squash Club Championships 2024

Dear [[firstname]]

Thank you for entering the 2024 First City Squash Club Championships. The draws are now online, and on the tournament noticeboard at the club, so please begin to organise your matches, and also play your games before the play by dates.

All first match losers will be automatically entered into the plate event, You'll need to contact me if you do not want to enter..

All matches are best of 5 games

Double yellow dots balls can be used BUT.......single yellow dots or Red Dot balls are recommended for C, D, Women's, Juniors and Beginners. Please do not feel embarrased to ask your opponent to use one of these balls, they will enhance the enjoyment of the game of squash. If you have any questions regarding what type of ball to use or why, please speak to me or any of my coaching team.

This year we are having ALL the semi-finals taking place on Wednesday 20th March, and the Finals Night on Friday 22nd March. I really hope you will put these dates into your diary, and come along and watch all our finalists and celebrate what I know will be brilliant event.

This is the largest Squash Club Championships we've had in a number of years, this is due to the increase participation of squash in the club. There are 79 entries in total in Mixed A, B, C, D, Women's, Adult Beginners and Juniors categories, last year we had 44.

For the last 15months, it has been our focus to increase junior participation, this time last year we had 25 juniors playing squash weekly, we are now up to nearly 60. It has taken a huge effort from my coaching team and especially Kate Corey, who has worked tirelessly to get these numbers up to this level, and we will not stop!

Over the next 18months, we have set new goals to increase squash and racketball adult participation, and though we are at the start, I'm absolutely delighted to welcome 10 beginner squash players who are competing in this years event, they all come to our Monday night beginners session. If you see these players on court, please give them some support, the way you were supported when you first started playing.

If your wife, husband or partner would like to give squash or racketball a go, please get them to come along on a Monday evening 7pm - 8pm.(the first group session is always free) If you have any questions please come and have a chat with me.

Finally I would like to thank Chris Bywater of First City who has once again generously sponsored these prestigious championships, we really do appreciate his support.

Whether you win or lose, play hard, have fun and enjoy playing squash.

Good Luck

Mike Harris
