Squash & Racketball - Monthly Update

The 2024 Carver Cup Handicap Squash Championships are in full swing, and we’re now entering the exciting business end of the tournament! I want to extend my best wishes to all players competing in the Quarter and Semi-Finals in both the Main A & B Draws, as well as those in the Plate events. Those players who are victoriious will then play in the Carver Cup Finals Night – this Friday, 29th November

Join us this Friday for an evening of thrilling squash as the Finals get underway at 6:30pm. It’s the perfect opportunity to support our finalists and cheer them on (see the schedule below for all match details). A huge thank you to Henry Carver of Carvers for his continued support of this historic club event!

We are treated to some incredible squash action in the Warwickshire league, with world-class players competing most weeks at our club. Watching athletes of this calibre is truly inspiring—don't miss the chance to catch the excitement! Matches are played most evenings, and we’d love to see you there. Festive Squash & Racketball Events
We’ve got a fantastic lineup of 2-hour squash and racketball events lined up over the festive season. These events are the perfect way to enjoy the holidays while staying active and having fun:

Squash & Racketball Pairs Tournament – Friday, December 20th, 6:30pm – 8:30pm
Squash and racketball players will team up, with pairs drawn on the night. It’s a fun way to compete! Please sign up via My Courts

Squash & Racketball Team Tournament – Friday, December 27th, 9:45am – 11:45am
Teams of 2 squash players and 2 racketball players will compete in timed matches for exciting points. Teams will be drawn that morning—more games, more fun!

Both events are free to enter, please sign up via My Courts (tournament).

Wolverhampton Sports Awards Success
It’s a proud moment for our club! Last Tuesday, several of our members were honoured at the Wolverhampton Sports Advisory Council Awards. Congratulations to Robin Chipperfield, who won Veteran of the Year, and to Liz Collinswood (Young Person of the Year) and Carl Galloway (Disabled Player of the Year – VI Tennis). I was also humbled to receive the Award of Merit for my coaching achievements in Squash and Racketball. This recognition highlights the incredible talent and dedication at WLTSC—we truly are a remarkable club!

Jason Smith’s Great Performance
A huge shoutout to Jason Smith, who narrowly lost in the final of the C Grade at the Sutton Coldfield Graded event. Jason earned a special mention for hitting the shot of the day with a rolling nick at match ball! Also competing were Leon Smith, who reached the B semi-final, and Emily Vickers, who made it to the E semi-finals. Well done to all our members for their fantastic performances!

Midland Masters

We are thrilled to announce that WLTSC will be hosting the Midland Masters Squash Championships from Friday, January 10th to Sunday, January 12th! This is an exciting opportunity for our members to compete in a top-tier tournament and gain valuable match experience against some of the best masters players in the UK.

It’s also a fantastic event for all to come and watch, cheer on the players, and be part of the action. Don’t miss out on this exciting weekend of squash.

With the England Squash Masters fast approaching, I’ve had several players reaching out about lessons — and I’m excited to help you take your game to the next level! Whether you're looking to sharpen your skills ahead of the Masters or just want to improve your Squash or Racketball play, I’m here to assist you. Private lessons are a great way to boost your ability, confidence, and overall enjoyment of the game!

Lesson Availability:

Mondays: 1:00pm – 4:00pm
Tuesdays: 9:00am – 12:00pm
Wednesdays: 1:30pm – 5:00pm
Fridays: 9:00am – 11:00am & 2:00pm – 5:15pm

I’m also available for occasional evening sessions, typically after my club group coaching.
