Squash & Racketball Newsletter

Dear [[firstname]]

For the last 15months, it has been our focus to increase junior participation, this time last year we had 25 juniors playing squash weekly, we are now up to nearly 60. It has taken a huge effort from my coaching team and especially Kate Corey, who has worked tirelessly to get these numbers up to this level, and we will not stop!

Over the next 18months, we have set new goals to increase squash and racketball adult participation, and the numbers that have entered our squash and racketball club championships show we are beginning to see positive signs.

In the Squash Club Championship, we have welcomed 10 beginner squash players who are competing in their own event, and they all come to our Monday night beginner’s session. If you see these players on court, please give them some support, the way you were supported when you first started playing.

If your wife, husband or partner would like to give squash or racketball a go, please get them to come along on a Monday evening to beginner’s squash & racketball class, 7pm - 8pm. (the first group session is always free) If you have any questions please come and have a chat with me or email me on mike.harris@wltsc.com

Talking of free taster sessions, take a look below at what is happening on the squash courts.

JUNIORS

Our WOW Squash Academy Juniors had an amazing day in The Chris Flint Shrewsbury Junior Open Squash Championships on Saturday.

- Jack Andrews won the Boys U15 title

- Amrit narrowly lost the Boys u11 final in a brilliant match

- Anand came 4th in the Boys u11

- Arjun came 5th in the Boys U13s

- Amar came 6th in the Boys u15

- Harri Dhillion in the Boys U13 10th and Arun Dhillion in the Boys u11 came 7th

Our Junior Squash Program is growing, and will continue to grow, and though we proud of the boys’ performances on Saturday, my team and I are super proud of all our juniors.

We are currently working award skills, which are not easy, but that's why, every time a junior achieves the next level, it really means so much.

At every Saturday or Wednesday junior session, I could pick out a hundred different moments, that show such incredible hard work and determination from the juniors that is truly inspiring.

Our programme celebrates all our juniors, and it is a privilege for my team and I to get to know the kids and parents, we love that our roots are firmly built on having a fun and offering a welcoming environment for all.

Please see the poster attached for class details, please remember the first session is alway free to newcomers. If you would like to give one of junior squash classes a go, please contact Mike Harris at mike.harris@wltsc.com.

Finally a huge thank you to our junior sponsors The Platform Wombourne , who are supporting our constantly growing program that is achieving fabulous things but more importantly, having lots of squash fun.

THE ROYAL SCHOOL

As part of our continued outreach squash programme, we welcomed 7 students from The Royal School, who had a squash taster session. We had a wonderful evening teaching them the rules, the serve, the drive and lots of fun games. We are now in talks with the school, to get a regular weekly daytime session set up at the club.! I’ll keep you informed on the outcome.

So whether you win or lose, play hard, have fun and enjoy playing squash, racketball, tennis, going to the gym or doing a class.

Kindest Regards

Mike Harris
