I’m sorry you haven’t heard from me for a while, as many of you know, I wasn’t well during October, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped to keep the Squash & Racketball programme running during this period.

We’ve had a great start to the Squash & Racketball season, below are a few of the events we have hosted and are hosting over the next few weeks. You might like to sign up for some of the exciting sessions including COURT FIT, which, is a new circuit training class taken by me Mike Harris on Mondays at 6.00pm. It’s free, open to all levels of fitness and you can sign up via MyCourts.

The Platform Racketball Handicap Championships

Congratulations to Aidan Wrynne, who is our new 2023 Platform Cafe Racketball Handicap Champion, Aidan defeated Ed Cooper 3-2 in a brilliant final.

Thank you to everyone who came along to watch finals, the atmosphere was amazing.

I’d like to say a huge thank you to the Platform Café, Wombourne for generously sponsoring these championships.

Halloween Junior Squash Tournament - sponsored by The Platform Cafe Wombourne

We held our 3rd of 4 amazing fun junior squash tournaments of 2023, we had a fabulous morning of face painting, tattoos, balloons, pumpkins, fancy dress, cake and sweet eating...oh and some brilliant squash by our wonderful juniors!

For those who came down to the squash courts during the Halloween week, you would’ve seen the incredible balloon arch and decorations. Thank you to Kate Corey, who outdid herself. Can’t wait for our Christmas Junior Tournament on Saturday 16th December.

The Halloween Half-Term Squash Camp

We had another wonderful Junior Halloween Squash Camp, where we had 42 juniors attend across the 3 days. Thank you to all the kids who attended, you were amazing and so much fun.

Girl Guides - Squash Taster Session

In late October, we welcomed 12 Girl Guides to WLTSC for an introduction squash taster session.. Thank you to Mia Wright and Colette Starzak who put on an amazing night of squash, fun & laughter, with all the girls able to play matches by the end of the evening. We look forward to welcoming them back and other groups soon.

The 2023 Carver Cup Squash Handicap

The Carver Cup Squash Handicap is well under way, please check out the tournament section on MyCourts for the full draw and current results. Will Aidan Wrynne be able to add the Squash Handicap title to his recent Racketball Handicap Title?.

The Finals night is taking place on Friday 1st December starting at 6.00pm. Please come down and support the finallists.

Once again, I’d like to take the opportunity to thank Henry Carver for his continued support of this major event at WLTSC.

Squash Royalty - Gina Kennedy and Laura Massaro at WLTSC

A few weeks ago, Commonwealth Gold medallist, and World No.6 Gina Kennedy and former World Squash Champion Laura Massaro MBE paid the WLTSC squash courts a surprise visit as part a HEAD training day with young national juniors. It was wonderful to have 2 superstars from the world of squash at the club. We look forward to welcoming them back again for another visit, maybe for a club exhibition next time.

RAF Squash Training

We look forward to welcoming the RAF,back to the club, on Monday 27th – Wednesday 29th November, for a squash training week It's been a few months since they have been to WLTSC, and personally it's aways a pleasure to host the RAF.

Squash Achieves Olympic Glory.

In an exhilarating moment for the world of squash, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has made a historic announcement: squash has officially been selected for inclusion in the LA28 Olympic Games sports programme. This decision marks a monumental victory for squash enthusiasts worldwide, as the sport finally finds its well-deserved place on the grandest sporting stage of all – the Olympics.

It's difficult to put into words how amazing this is for the millions of squash lovers all over the world! It’s a major turning point in our sport’s history, promising to elevate squash's profile significantly in the long run and help the sport we all love. With squash in the Olympic Games, the sport is set to reach new heights, inspiring generations of players and fans alike.

Finally

You might have noticed during my newsletter the mention of “The Platform Café.a few times.

Well, I’m delighted to announce that the amazing team led by Esther May Morton, Sophie Morton and Gary Morton at The Platform Café, has made a generous donation to the Junior Squash Programme. We cannot thank them enough for their support and this donation will help us to continue you the growth of squash at WLTSC.
