Sports Update

Dear [[firstname]],

Thank you for all the positive support of our Armed Forces, specifically the RAF Squash players training at the club this week. Big thank you to Mike for delivering an expert programme of coaching and we look forward to their return on 9th December and team match against us on the evening.

Well done to the 25 strong WLTSC team who all completed last Sunday's Wolf Run in Leicestershire assisted by Foggy, Brendon and Bill.

Congratulations also to all our junior performance tennis players competing in the Tennis Europe event this week.

If you would like to join us next Tuesday (16th) evening, Alessandra and myself will be delivering another CPR Awareness session at 6pm in the Studio, please book on MyCourts, non members are also very welcome.

In the Spring we will be holding our annual charity day to raise funds for our Special Educational Needs and Junior tennis programmes. The date is likely to be 29th June, as part of that event, one of our long-standing members, Sally Dawes, will be organising a fundraising plant sale.

Those who know Sally may know she is an avid gardener. She hates to waste plants and so is aiming to use members' unwanted and excess plants to raise money towards our Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) programme.

Her plan between now and the sale is to encourage people to collect as many plants, seedlings, seeds and bulbs as possible. These will be sold at the charity day with all proceeds being donated to our charity programme. The more plants that can be donated by members the greater the funds we can raise.

So what can you do?

Anyone with a garden can contribute! Between now and the charity day in late Spring next year, simply save any unwanted plants that you might otherwise throw away. Instead of weeding them out and disposing of them, just pot them up and label them ready for sale.

Ways you might contribute::

1) Pot up unwanted plants or seedlings from your garden
2) Divide plants that have grown too big and pot up the unwanted sections
3) Keep any excess seedlings you might have from sowing your seeds (flowers or vegetables)
4) Pick and store seed heads or seeds taken from plants at the end of the flowering season
5) Save unwanted bulbs or corms
6) Save anything else that might sell!!
Please remember it helps to label up anything that you have with as much detail on the species and variety as you can. Don't worry if you're not sure if the details though - Sally can help to fill in the gaps and identify specimens.

What can Sally do to help you?

For those who have plants now but don't have the space or don't want to store them over the winter, Sally will happily take them now and overwinter them in her garden.

She can also supply empty plant pots, plant labels or seed envelopes for anyone that needs them.

You can call or text her any time on 07771 710458.

You'll hear details of the plant sale and other activities we are planning as part of our charity day closer to the time. But if you can start collecting plants now, it will ensure a successful plant sale and contribute hugely to the funds we can raise. Thank you in advance for anything you are able to contribute.

Kind regards,

Marc Hughes
