Looking forward

Dear [[firstname]],

Firstly, I would like to thank you for welcoming me to the club, it’s been wonderful getting to meet so many people and I can’t wait to introduce myself to more of you at the Welcome Back Party on Saturday 11th September.

During the first few weeks I would’ve been found generally at my workstation, located upstairs in the squash hall area, where I have been looking to develop Squash & Racketball programmes. This will be a long and exciting journey but I, the committee and coaching team are fully committed to making WLTSC the best Squash & Racketball venue in the West Midlands. I’d like to share some of the plans (apologies for the number of posters-i thought you would wish to see an overview of plans) for the next few months.

  • WOW

Over the next few months, you will notice that the Squash & Racketball area will have new branding. WOW is the new name for Squash & Racketball at WLTSC.

WOW Squash, WOW Racketball, WOW Women WOW Squash Academy etc. WOW stands for Winners of Wolverhampton. We are close to revealing the new branding and we hope you’ll be proud to be a part of WOW.

  • First City Squash Club Championships 2021

This is the first championship we have held in over a year and it would be great to get every squash (Racketball and Tennis) player to enter. Many players have only just returned to the squash courts and are not sure they’re up to playing in a tournament. As I mentioned it’s the first event back for everyone, so don’t feel too bad if you’re not back to the level you once were……99% are in the same boat.

The closing date is Sunday 5th September and you can sign up now via My Courts.

The finals are taking place on Saturday 2nd October where I hope we’ll have a big crowd to support the finalists.

  • Women’s Squash Week

Women’s Squash (and Racketball) Week is taking place 19th – 26th September.

The week will be full of activities to get women of all ages to give squash & racketball a go! Look out for the posters and the schedule around the club from next week.

  • Squash Skills and Drills

Starting on Wednesday 22nd September 6.45pm – 8.00pm. This session is aimed at intermediate to advanced players. Session will cost £4.00.

  • Junior Squash Programme

The squash team have done an amazing job to set up and create such a vibrant programme and I want to take this opportunity to thank Thomas, Mia, Tanita, Oscar and Ben for their fantastic work. For those who don’t know our junior squash programme. It takes place every Sunday morning 10.00am – 11.30am and on Wednesday 6.00pm – 6.45pm. If you’d like to know more details, please contact me mike.harris@wltsc.com

  • Wolverhampton Junior Open (England Squash Sanctioned Event)

We will be welcoming juniors from across the West Midlands and further afield to compete at the one-day championships on Sunday 10th October. Please come down to support our own WLTSC juniors and see some fantastic squash.

  • Half Term Squash Camp

Monday 25th – Friday 29th October (9.30am – 3.30pm each day) we will be running a junior half term squash camp for boys & girls aged 8+. The camp will consist of skills, fitness, match play but most of all fun.

  • Schools and Young Persons Outreach Programme

It’s our goal to take squash to the community and that starts with schools. The WLTSC Squash & Racketball team are working extremely hard to create long term sustainable links with schools across the city. Whether it’s during school P.E sessions or extra-curricular programmes and to support pupils who want to take squash as part of their GCSEs.

We are also looking to set up links with scout and girl guide groups or Duke of Edinburgh activities & volunteering.

  • WOW Squash Academy Junior Stars

As part of the Schools and Outreach Programme the Junior Stars is part of the Birmingham 2022 Squash Legacy Programme to get young people into squash. For £25.00 a young person aged 5-11 years old, can get a racket, squash glasses, a t-shirt (with their initials on it) a bag and a ball. This is an incredible offer and one we hope will be another entry point for young people to take up squash. Look out as we are hoping to set up a similar programme for teenagers and for adults.

  • VLOG

Finally, please check out my weekly VLOG which, goes out on most WLTSC social media platforms on a Friday. This gives a few weekly reminders to members on upcoming events plus I show you my Squash and/or Racketball practice of the week. Please look out for it and give some of these practices a go.

This is just the beginning of making WLTSC the best Squash & Racketball Club in the West Midlands.

All the best

Mike Harris
