Sports Update

Dear [[firstname]],

It’s been quite a week at the club; thank you all for your patience and understanding as we opened the club to numerous visitors last week.

We started with our annual SEND & Jnr Development Fundraiser which has already raised over £5,000 thanks to a £3,000 grant from the Allianz Sports Fund, £1,000 from the LTA inc. member donations, plus another £1,000 from the sale of raffle tickets, cakes, samosas and coffee. The raffle draw was completed on Friday and a list of the winners is in the attached document.

Many thanks for all the very generous donations and a special thank you to all the staff and volunteers for making the day such a success. The Mayor was very impressed with the club and took time to meet our Visually Impaired (VI) visitors, the RAF Squash Ladies and many of our members. We were also very pleased to host Special Olympics GB athlete and coach, Greg Silvester.

The WLTSC Aberdovey Bike Ride team have raised over £6,000 for Compton Care who took the opportunity to present a cheque whilst the Mayor was at the club on Wednesday.

The Commonwealth Games Roadshow on Friday was a huge success and Mike will be summarising the detail for you in his next email.

On Saturday we hosted staff and families working in the Intensive Care Unit at New Cross Hospital and delivered a fun tennis event on our indoor courts which was appreciated by all.

Also, on Saturday whilst Nick Kyrgios and Stefanos Tsitsipas showed how not to behave on court; our very own Henry Searle (16yrs old) performed admirably at Junior Wimbledon losing closely to the number 2 seed despite the numerous Team WLTSC supporters around court 7.

On Sunday from 11am to 1pm we have our annual Wimbledon Whites Tennis event followed by refreshments whilst watching the Wimbledon Men’s final under the marquee. Book your place on MyCourts which is half full already.

Lastly, on Monday evening we have an over 35s match versus a very strong team from Edgbaston Priory and we will need all the support we can get down on courts 3 to 5 from 6:30pm.

Kind regards,

Marc Hughes
