Chairman Club Update on re-opening

Dear [[firstname]] ,

I trust that both you and your family have remained safe and are keeping well during this difficult time.

I am delighted to inform you that we are currently working towards opening the club for a limited range of activities with effect from Thursday 14th May 2020. The announcement made by the Prime Minister on Sunday and the detailed guidance issued yesterday together with the recommendations from the LTA have been reviewed in detail. The Executive Committee, General Committee and Tennis Committee, having discussed the matter at length, have collectively decided that the club could be safely re-opened once appropriate measures to protect members are put in place and a code of practice developed for members to follow whilst playing at the club.

The guidelines allow for the use of only outdoor facilities. The indoor tennis courts, squash courts, gyms, changing rooms, bar and restaurant and other club facilities will remain closed. Singles play and coaching on a one to one basis will be possible. Only members living in the same household will be allowed to play doubles. The doubles restriction is due to the problem of trying to maintain social distancing whilst playing. The guidelines also enable us to allow personal training to take place outside. This will also be on an individual basis and members should contact the Energise team directly to discuss when personal training will restart. The popular online exercise classes will continue as normal.

We will be opening up the foyer to the indoor courts to allow members access to hand washing and toilet facilities. The rest of the indoor courts facility will remain locked and out of bounds. There will be strict rules displayed outside the entrance to the foyer to the indoor courts about the use of the hand washing and toilet facilities which members must follow for the safety of everyone.

The artificial grass courts are being prepared ready for members to start using on Thursday. The courts will not be open until then as we are still finalising appropriate safety measures and the introduction of a My Courts booking system. A further email confirming the re-opening together with a detailed code of practice regarding the use of the outdoor tennis courts will be issued tomorrow evening in preparation for Thursday. All members must adhere to the code of practice. My Courts will require a booking fee to secure a court, but this will be refunded. Members will, therefore, not be charged for using the courts.

I have previously stated that members will receive an extended subscription renewal date when their next subscription renewal falls due. I would like to emphasise that using the clubs limited facilities now will have no impact on that entitlement in the future.

I am sure that, like me, you are delighted that the club has finally been able to begin the slow process back towards normality. It is only a small step, but it is a significant one. We will all have to continue to act in a responsible and socially conscious manner if we are to move forward and protect both ourselves and our fellow members. We will not hesitate to take whatever corrective action is required to ensure that members adhere to the guidelines as the wellbeing and safety of all members is paramount.
