Campaign to Reinstate Adult Indoor Tennis

Dear [[firstname]],

When the Government announced that Wolverhampton was being put in Tier 2 Alert Level, I suspect that none of us was really surprised.
When, a week later, we were advised by the LTA, that the consequences of the Governments’ decision would mean that Indoor Tennis Courts would be closed to Adult social play, I, for one was gobsmacked.

How could 4 people, playing tennis on a court area of 2,800 sq. ft. under the guidelines that we have set out, possibly be considered a risk?
Even more illogical when we later learnt that group exercise classes could continue indoors.

Well, the LTA are of the same opinion, and are openly lobbying the Government to get this ruling changed. Scott Lloyd, LTA Chief Executive, has written to Oliver Dowden, Secretary of State for DCMS citing that the decision is completely unjustifiable when gyms and exercise classes can go ahead.

We have been in touch with Kate King, our Participation Development Partner at the LTA, and she suggests that we add our individual weight to the argument by lobbying our local MPs. She has provided us with a template letter (attached) for each of us to complete and send to our constituency MP.

To help you in doing so I have also attached a list of the 4 local MPs serving our area together with their contact details. The Club will be sending a separate letter on behalf of WLTSC. I know that many of you have expressed annoyance and disbelief at the Government ruling.

It is time to stand up and get our courts back.

Yours sincerely
Steve Chilvers
On behalf of the Tennis Committee
