Proud of WLTSC

Dear [[firstname]]

Midland Masters

Last weekend the club hosted the best England Squash Masters (ESM) event, the Midland Masters Squash Championships in its 20year history. This compliment was given to us by the Chairman of ESM Stuart Hardy. Though we’ve held this event in the past, this was on a different level to anything previously and any club has ever delivered. Every department in the club did their bit to make this event so special, from the cleaning, the catering, the volunteers, the Squash & Racketball committee, to Neil and Dave going on the roof at 7am on Saturday morning to sort out an issue…..this is to name but a few things WLTSC did to make this event such a wonderful experience for the players and ESM.

An amazing 190 players from across the UK and Sweden competed in the championships,

Darren Lewis (current O40’s British Champion and British Open Champion) continued his great form on the Masters Circuit winning the O40’s Event.

I came close but lost out in the O50’s final losing 3-2 but I’m absolutely delighted by my performance. (I’ll have him next time)!!!

Kate Fuller played brilliantly beating an England International in her 1st Match (definitely the best match of the weekend) and ended up coming 3rd overall, and an ecstatic Neil Patel won the O50’s Plate event. Robin Chipperfield lost narrowly to the No.1 seed in the O60’s, and Allan Walton also narrowly lost to the No.1 seed in the O45s, both at the quarter final stage.

We had 15 WLTSC players overall in the championship, with some extraordinary performances by everyone. Congratulations to everyone who entered.

I’d also like to thank all the members who came down to support us, it gave all of us a huge boost and my word you made a lot of noise! Hometown advantage does work!

Carver Cup

The Carver Cup Handicap Championship is well under way, we’ve already had some surprising victories, which is good for the event. Just a reminder that the,

Semi Finals – Thursday 1st December
Finals Night – Friday 2nd December

Huge thank you to Henry Carver of Carvers who has once again generously sponsored this historic event. We look forward to welcoming Henry and his family to the Finals night.

WLTSC Schools Outreach Programme

Last Thursday we hosted the 2nd of our 3 Festivals of Sport. 150 children (aged 7- 10years) from schools across Wolverhampton came to WLTSC and had the opportunity to try Squash, Tennis, Gym, Archery, Croquet and Dodgeball.

After the success of the Commonwealth Games Wolverhampton Roadshow that took place here in July, I wanted to create more links with Wolverhampton Schools, so with the support of the School Games Organisers (SGOs) I set up the Festival of Sport. This important engagement and exposure of the club will in the long-term lead to greater participation across the whole club.

Thanks to Marc and Clayton for all their support delivering Tennis and Rhys for delivering brilliant Gym sessions.

Beginners Squash & Racketball Sessions

Just a reminder that on Mondays we run Beginners Squash & Racketball sessions. These sessions are a great opportunity to try a new sport, to meet other members and to make new friends. I’m passionate about Squash & Racketball and I like the opportunity to show you how much fun these sports are. So why not “Give It A Go”. Session costs £3.00

Beginners Squash – 6.00pm – 7.00pm

Beginners Racketball – 7.00pm – 8.00pm

Finally on Friday I played in my 1st Club Tennis Tournament. Foggy and I played Steve Pearcy and John Williams in the 1st Round but we lost out 10-7 in the Champions Tie Break. We all had so much fun on court and that's what sport is all about.

I hope you had a wonderful weekend and hope you have an amazing week ahead.

Kindest Regards

Mike Harris

Head of Squash & Racketball

P.S Foggy and I are still absolutely gutted we lost......haha!
