Vision for the Future – Phase 1

I would like to bring to your attention an important improvement to the facilities that we are planning to partially implement in the next few weeks. Since the appointment of the new Fitness management, who recently celebrated their first anniversary at the club, and which has re ENERGISED the club, we were aware that we had to act quickly to maintain the momentum that had been created by their success and to move forward as a premier fitness location. We are acutely aware that our gym lacked the available space to accommodate the numbers of people at peak times and to be able to promote alternative courses in the gym. We are therefore intending to convert squash court 1 into a secondary gym with an access adjacent to the existing gym entrance and located in the stairwell access to the studio. This secondary gym would be used to deliver Personal Training, Squash, Tennis and Racketball specific training, rehabilitation and functional training in addition to extra classes and group training. We are intending to create the access to gym 2 in the near future after we have agreed suitable quotations for the necessary building work. To compensate for the loss of squash court 1, we are intending to reverse squash court 2 and have it accessed with courts 3 -7 and have 6 premier courts in one location. This will involve losing a certain amount of viewing area at court 7, the re-location of the physiotherapy room, the building of a new hitting wall for court 2 and a new glass access frontage for the new court 2. The new court 2 would become a pre bookable court. These plans are subject to planning permission, but it is hoped to implement the construction during the squash close season this summer. The plans, which will be displayed around the club, have been discussed fully by the squash committee and have been unanimously approved and have also been unanimously approved by the General Committee. Both committees view these alterations as positive improvement to the facilities at the club. This project is the first step in our “Vision for the Future” plans and as such we have submitted details to England Squash and have received a grant of £10,000 towards the project, subject to completing E.S. requirements. This is the first major success for the Grant Steering Committee. Yours in Sport Ron Stevenson Chairman
