Club News

, It is with very great sadness we report the death of Roger Tweedale. Roger was a member of the club for over 40 years and a former Chairman and President of the club. He was a very keen squash player and a regular team player for us, also representing Shropshire on many occasions. His tennis was never quite as good as his squash! His greatest contribution was when he combined his work as architect and lover of the club to improve the facilities. As Chairman he put together the plans for which we got lottery funding to considerably enhance our facilities around the millennium time. He designed the new indoor tennis courts and showed great courage in taking on the planning committee when the initial application failed and the club had to appeal. This development which also included a new gym, fitness studio, and improved tennis and squash facilities was a considerable success and came in on budget. If it were not for Roger's fierce determination and "Yorkshire" grit we would not be enjoying the fantastic facilities that the club currently has to offer. Our thoughts are with his wife Jeanette and his daughter Debbie at this time. Roger was one of the club characters and will be missed by all the members that knew him. Kind regards, Simon Calrow President
