The Dave Smart Racketball Finals are on this evening starting at 6.15pm on court 3. We have had a great entry and some very interesting matches culminating in two finals.
First on is the Plate Final between Jonathon Evans (-22) v Mike Barrett (0) then a short Exhibition match at approximately 7pm.
Over the last 18 months a guy called Mark Cooper has been a twice weekly visitor to the club to have racketball coaching. Mark nearly died 2 years ago from a brain aneurysm, following surgery and a 4 week coma he began his recovery and once he'd re-learnt to talk, walk and even eat, he was referred to the club physio, Patrick Hyde who suggested racketball could be good therapy. With regular sessions on court Mark's progress has been remarkable and the squash and racketball committee thought it would be nice for members who can't get to the club during the day to meet Mark (and his mum Dee, who's brought him to every session) and see how racketball has transformed his life; Mark will play a best of 3 match.
The final will commence at around 7.20pm and is between Steve Giddings (-22) and Huw Humphries (-2). Matches are best of 5 games to 11 and will use the blue ball.
Looking forward to seeing you there later.
